Srinagar, Aug 02 (KNO): As a loving memento for movie enthusiasts in the Valley, a Bollywood film “Laila Majnu” was re-released in a theatre in Srinagar on Friday.
According to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), present at today’s event was acclaimed filmmaker Imtiaz Ali.
Directed by Sajid Ali and Starring Avinash Tiwary and Triptii Dimri, the movie originally hit theatres in 2018 but didn’t achieve significant box office success.
It was re-released today at INOX multiplex here in Srinagar and saw love and a handsome crowd.
According to the details available with KNO, Sajid Ali expressed his excitement about the re-release, noting the film's deep connection with Kashmir. “Money can't buy people, but love can,” Ali said while sharing about the emotional core of the film.
He added that the story, set against the backdrop of Kashmir, aims to resonate with the local audience by portraying the authentic essence of the region and its youth.
Avinash Tiwary, who plays the lead role, shared his enthusiasm, stating, “We tried to make it authentic, and it’s a story of soil, of its youth, and we tried to cast locals.”
Sharing details about the re-release, the team crew said the idea for the re-release stemmed from the fans themselves, surprising the director and demonstrating the enduring popularity of the film among Kashmiris.
“The idea for the re-release was basically given by people,” added Sajid.
Notably, there is some trust and stability people are looking for, and what the filmmakers are looking for,” Said Ali, speaking on the community’s role in bringing the film back to theatres.
Reflecting on the response to the first show, which saw a houseful audience, Sajid Ali noted, “I saw the first show housefull. People in Kashmir too have a life, and the idea was to focus on life and try to make something different.”—(KNO)
